Weather:
58-76 degrees; sunny; strong winds from the NW or NNW, ending up as N,
12-23 mph, gusting to 33 mph.

Observations:
Seventeen Merlin day, 14 of which came between 2 and 6 pm (DST).  One of
the Merlins made a quick detour to chase a passerine at blazing speed, but
was unsuccessful. 

Great day for non-raptor migration.  Amazing day-long flight of Chimney
Swifts, Purple Martins and swallows (Barn, Tree, Bank, N. Rough-winged,
and Cliff), numbering overall in the tens of thousands.  Cattle Egret. 
Common Moorhen seen yesterday and today.  Flock of 20 Bobolinks.
Black-bellied Plover.  Northward flight of Herring Gulls. 425+ American
Goldfinches between 9 am and noon.  Almost 600 Blue Jays.

Site Description:
Fort Smallwood Park is located on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay at
the mouth of the Patapsco River, 11 miles south of Baltimore, MD.  Best
winds are from the southwest.
