Hi,

Late this morning I was finally able to escape from my
office. I wandered over to the Nature Center at Rock
Creek Park in northwest DC, and sat by the little pool
with Gerhart the photographer. From about noon to
about 2:30 pm we had 10 species of warblers:
Nashville, N. Parula, Myrtle (a ton of them),
Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, BT Green,
Chestnut-sided, Blackpoll, Ovenbird, and American
Redstart. Also around were Wood and Swainson's
Thrushes, Veeries, Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted
Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, Red-eyed Vireo, and a
calling Broad-winged Hawk. I wandered over toward the
Maintenance Yard area where I heard a Black-and-White
Warbler singing. A nice, cool way to spend an
afternoon.

I saw Gerhart there on Wednesday morning and I believe
he has been there every day this week. Yesterday at
the pool he saw an immature male Summer Tanager that
looked virtually identical to one he saw earlier this
week at the National Zoo. On Tuesday he photographed
a Yellow-breasted Chat at the pool. With all these
goodies I may spend some time there later this
weekend.
