Hi --

Barry and I took two British friends to Rock Creek Park DC to look for
migrants. It was actually rather a slow day warbler-wise but excellent for
thrushes. We did see or hear a good selection of warblers but mostly in low
numbers; many warblers have passed through, and more of the ones left are
females (not singing) -- and there are a lot of leaves on those trees!

Warblers: Black-throated Blue (4); Black-throated Green (2), Blackburnian
(1), Blackpoll (~12), Bay-breasted (2), Canada (5), Chestnut-sided (2),
Magnolia (3), Myrtle (15), Nashville (2), Ovenbird (3, surprisingly
scarce!), Redstart (4), Tennessee (1), Worm-eating (1, appears to be on
territory off ridge).

Other migrants: Grey-cheeked Thrush (6), one possible Bicknell's Thrush,
unfortunately silent, strikingly warm toned, esp. towards tail, short
primary projection, bill very pale, Swainson's Thrush (8), Veery (2), Wood
Thrush (10), Scarlet Tanager (12, mostly unseen alas!), Red-eyed Vireo
(~20), Baltimore Oriole (4), Great Crested Flycatcher (2), Acadian FC (4),
Wood Pewee (3), Yellow-billed Cuckoo (3), BLUE GROSBEAK (female, 1), Swamp
Sparrow (1), White-throated Sparrow (3).

Yesterday birders had a Philadelphia Vireo near the Nature Center.
(Unfortunately, we missed it!)
