Another nice day at Lake Roland. I searched and searched for the
pectoral sandpiper, i might have a photo of one, still need to run
through them all and double check. In my arduous search i found a
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER. I was almost shocked at this tiny orange billed
bird, standing right next to a killdeer for perfect comparison.
Overall the day was fairly good. All the normal birds; other
highlights include magnolia warbler; blackpoll warbler, normal
selection of solitary/spotted/yellowlegs/least out on the flats. A
couple white eyed vireos and orchard orioles, along with wood ducks
with ducklings in the back marsh. Still missing warbling vireos,
prothonotary, hooded and kentucky warblers for the year. Looking
forward to Bombay Hook this sat. anyone been around there recently? I
need seaside and nelson and avocets (lifers) Any advice would be
welcome.
Good Birding
