Highlights of a walk in Leakin Park today (Weatheredsville Road
to Winans Meadows) were good views of two male BAY-BREASTED
WARBLERS and of one GREY-CHEEKED THRUSH. We had several
lively spots with birds.

Other highlights included Rough-winged swallows flying close to the
ground down Weatheredsville Road, making their little grunting noises;
one alighting on the ground to pick up nesting material. We had good
views of four Veerys and three Swainson's Thrushes. At one point, a
Veery and Swainson's Thrush were in the same binocular view feeding
on the road. It was great seeing the two birds clearly side by side; the
Veery looked so rufous next to the other bird. We saw several White-
throated Sparrows, still. We had our first INDIGO BUNTINGS and
one YELLOW-THROATED VIREO; enjoyed a flock of CEDAR
WAXWINGS, and 13 species of warbler.

The Gray-cheeked Thrush we saw was in good light. It had buff on its
upper breast and bold spots. It had a barely visible eye ring, not the
wide buffy eye ring of a Swainson's Thrush. We good light on the cheek
and it was a grayish color. There wasn't the "warmer rufous" on the
primaries and tail that Sibley describes for Bicknell's; but I noticed
the primaries did appear subtly a warmer color.
