This morning while unloading the dishwasher, I heard my first Tennessee
Warbler (yard bird)! It was singing very close to the house, so I went out
on the porch but it was hiding somewhere in the brush about 25 feet from
me. I ran to get a camcorder, and it continued singing but would not come
out for a photo. I was out for a few minutes waiting patiently and noticed
all the commotion in the oaks and pines next to me, and among the many
(~10) blackpolls was a yellow one - so I got my bins on it, and was
delighted to see my first Magnolia warbler (in the yard). Two new yard
birds in one moment! I scanned the trees and found another magnolia, and a
N. parula as well. While I was out waiting for the TN to appear (it sang
for about 7-8 minutes more or less non-stop, but never did show itself), I
also heard 2 No. Waterthrushes, a LA. Waterthrush, and a Yellow warbler
singing in the marsh below. Seven warbler species in about 10 minutes -
What a great morning!
