Hi Everyone,

I just returned from a day and a half trip to Calvert and St. Mary's counties. Weather was great and so was the birding. Highlights of the trip.

Calvert - May 26th

The Eared Grebe still present at Patterson Park, also found a Chat, Blackpoll and Magnolia Warbler. I walked the woodlands trail hoping for the Kentucky Warbler which was posted but it remained silent and unseen. I did see a Least Flycatcher along the stream.

St. Mary's - May 26th

I went to some of the same places Stan Arnold reported on last week. At the Shorebird spot, I found the same birds that Stan reported. Added bonus was a single Black-bellied Plover and Ruddy Turnstone. The Red-headed Woodpecker continues at the same spot near Whittiker Road.

St. Mary's - May 27th

Point Lookout was fantastic, I ended up spending four hours going around the Ft. Lincoln area. Every I walked the paths, I would fine new species. Viewing was tough at times with all the leaves, but I also had fantastic looks when the warblers moved under the tree canopies. Felt like I was at Crane Creek, but without all the people. Approximate numbers of birds seen. (1) Nashville Warblers, (3) Parulas, (5) Yellows, (8) Chestnut-Sided, (25) Magnolia's, (13) Black-throated Blues - All females, (2) Blackburnians, (1) Pine, (17) Blackpolls - Most were females, (1) Black and White, (40) Redstarts, (3) Prothonotarys, (1) Northern Waterthrush, (12) Common Yellowthroats, (1) Wilson's female, (3) Canada's, (2) Chat's. Also seen were Wood and Swainson's Thrush, YB Cuckoo, Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, White and Red Eyed Vireos, Least and several unidentified empids, peewee's and four Hummingbirds.

Great day, unfortunately I will be working the holiday weekend. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend.
