On Sat, the blue-gray gnatcatcher was seen and heard at Fairland Park
just behind the Ice House. Fairland Park is partly in Montgomery and
partly in Prince George's. Also saw and heard the great-crested
flycatcher and pewee.

At Greencastle Lakes (NE Montgomery County) on Sat morning, a redwing
blackbird and a grackle were both harrassing the green heron as she sat
on the nest. Does the male stay nearby and provide any support? She
seems very alone. I saw a great blue heron on the other side of the
small pond, but it was no protection.

Cedar waxwings (small group of 11) were in the neighborhood throughout
the day.

A lone nighthawk flew around at dusk.

This is the first year I've heard and seen the yellow-billed cuckoo
("rain crow" when I was growing up ) in my neighborhood. Since it seems
to be hanging around, I have great hope it's nesting nearby.

I love hearing the news from the birdier places -- Thanks!

Fran
