Hi Folks,

Elaine and I did a late-evening jaunt around our Curtis Bay CW atlas block
in northern Anne Arundel County. The bird life was un-impressive until it
began getting dark, when we heard three Whip-poor-wills and two
Chuck-wills-widows (which say "chip flew out of the white oak" in Elaine's
native Mississippi). One of the whips flew into a thicket right next to the
path, and literally screamed at us from five feet away, though remained
invisible until it flushed back into the woods. The Whips were near some
dirt trails on the north side of Marley Blvd, and the Chucks were on the
south side of that road. During a break in the traffic, it might be
possible to hear both species from the road about 100 yards to the east of
the power lines (which are just east of the intersection of Marley Blvd with
Marley Road). The only other birds of even casual interest were Pine
Warbler, Ovenbird, and Scarlet Tanager, all regulars in this area.
