Jim Felly's post reminded me that I've been negilent in posting lately.
This morning I got a treat - saw a Great Egret on the Anacostia during high tide. It must have been standing on a log or sand bar, as it was standing in the water near the middle of the river near the Stadium. Chimney Swifts were working the green margins of the parking lot by the stadium and Canada Geese were hanging out in the parking lot. -- all viewed from the orange metro in motion.

Over the weekend I had some Atlas confirmations. Blue Jays feeding nearly fully grown young, Red-Eyed Vireo dutifully feeding its Cowbird chick, and Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher carrying food. Wood Thrushes (2 nests in close proximity) that I've been watching are fully fledged and the youngsters nearly have the adult song down pat. Eastern Wood Pewees are stilling singing, but I got an abbeviated song this morning. Young Carolina Wrens are getting chased away by their parents after traveling in a little flock together for almost a month. Catbirds still singing.

Saw E. Kingbird chicks on nest almost adult size with both parents still bringing food back to them at the nest. (Sorry, Rob, not at the Cheverly metro, that nest has been empty for a while).

Those amazing Song Sparrows, I usually take them for granted, but they were singing in the morning in the heat, and singing at 7 p.m. in the heat. I give them credit.
