PILEATED WOODPECKER WOODWORKINGS NEEDED

My friend Paul Sykes of the U. S. Geological Survey (formerly with U. S.
Fish & Wildlife Service) is in need of Pileated Woodpecker woodworkings
that he can examine. They need to be low height, preferably in hardwoods,
both bark scaling and the semi-rectangular troughs they make, preferably
fresh and ideally with workings that display the precise width of the bill.

Especially desired are any such on the Delmarva Peninsula or southeastern
Pennsylvania. Anyone with knowledge of these please contact Paul at
706-769-9436 or Paul will be in the area soon and
will be staying at 215-248-4120 Thursday evening, July 28, and at
410-745-2764 Friday evening, July 29, and into Saturday, July 30.

Paul has been an endangered species biologist with the U. S. government
since the 1960s. He is conducting forensic work comparing possible
Ivory-billed Woodpecker woodworkings with those of Pileateds. Thanks to
all concerned.-Henry ("Harry") T. Armistead, 523 E. Durham St.,
Philadelphia, PA 19119-1225. 215-248-4120.
