Laughing Gulls hit the District

I haven't been birding along the Anacostia the past few weeks so I don't
know if this is old news, but this (Sat) morning I was birding at Anacostia
River Park and there was a steady stream of adult LAUGHING GULLS (+ 1 imm.)
heading up the river. This is the first I've seen them this "fall," clearly
a sign of post-breeding dispersal. They'll be a fixture through the rest of
the year.

I also saw the TUNDRA SWAN from Chain Bridge.

And for a non-report: I have not found any Common Nighthawks in the
District this summer. Despite several attempts, I have not seen or heard
any at the usual spots (eg, between 17th St and CT Ave. north of Dupont).
Has anyone else been seeing or hearing nighthawks in the District this year
(aside from migrants in the spring)? Have they disappeared as a breeder?

Good birding,
