A brief clarification of the North Cell of Hart-Miller Island:

The North Cell will continue to receive dredged material until 2009 or until
it reaches a height of 44 feet above Mean Low Water (MLW), whichever comes
first.

There is no plan as yet for the final North Cell restoration. One option
that is currently being studied is whether it would be feasible to create a
grassland. A grassland would probably be a much less expensive restoration
of the 800-acre North Cell than the $6.6 million wetland restoration of the
300-acre South Cell. Additionally, the operating budget would be less. I
will be representing MOS on the North Cell Restoration Team as I did on the
South Cell Team and will give periodic updates as the process proceeds.
