I spent two hours this afternoon by the Mason-Dixon East pond, and saw very
few doves. But at about 3:20, 3 doves got up and flew toward the paved
entrance road. I picked them up in my binocular when they were already across the
pond from me, so the distance was not a help. What I saw was a gray-brown
dove with a pale mantle contrasting with darker flight feathers. The tail was
squared off and most of the feathers had broad gray-white tips except for the
central ones. I did not see the underside of the tail, or a collar. There
was no pale rump as a Rock Pigeon would show, nor were there bright white bars
on the wings as a White-winged Dove would show.
So I MAY have seen the ECDO and it might still be around. The bird appeared
to fly into the tree line along the paved entrance road near the point where
the gravel dike road meets it, but it could have continued through toward the
farm complex, not a bad place to look.
