I went to Mason Dixon Farm this evening and was at the east pond from 7-8PM. I did not see the Collared Dove reported earlier. It could easily have been hiding among the Mourning Doves there. One problem is that the water level is down very far and weeds are growing rapidly in the newly exposed areas. I estimated 300 Mourning Doves there. Most had nestled into the weeds and were very difficult to see though some were active on the open mud. Just before 8PM many of the birds took off and headed for wooded areas to the SW. Shorebirds were few. There were several Killdeer and Spotted Sandpipers and two Least Sandpipers that I saw while scanning the doves.
If someone sees the bird in the future try to get some photos to confirm the identification. I believe Gary's ID is correct but we need to nail it down. I will try to get out there again tomorrow.
