This morning while I was eating breakfast, a splash of yellow arrived
outside the window. It was hover flying around the various feeders
picking bugs. When it finally landed and allowed a decent view, Jane and
I determined that it was a Prothonotary Warbler! We've been looking for
this species in St. Mary's county for years and now we have one
delivered to our door. Very nice.

On Tuesday, as I was driving south from Solomons across the bridge into
St. Mary's, I got to see the Peregrine Falcon up close. It was flying
just barely above the jersey wall directly to the left of my car. I
haven't seen the falcons at the bridge very often this year unlike years
past when they nested there. They nested on the St. Mary's side the
first year of the atlas. I'm not sure where they are now but obviously
they haven't gone too far.
