Amanda Spears again, I posted about the American Golden Plovers and Buff Breasted Sandpipers in QAC. My Family and I went to Deal Island WMA in Somerset County, MD this labor day weekend. There were many carnivals and things to do, but I really wanted to see the local birds in that area.

Before Deal Island, we stopped on Rt. 50, before the 13 N split, at a pond/marsh area. We saw....

Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Snowy Egret
Green Heron
Glossy Ibis
Canada Goose
American Black Duck
Turkey Vulture
Killdeer
Lesser Yellowlegs
Pectoral Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Laughing Gull
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull
Song Sparrow
Red-winged Blackbird

Deal Island Harbor:

Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Canada Goose
American Black Duck
Turkey Vulture
Osprey
Bonaparte's Gull 4+
Laughing Gull
Ring-billed Gull
Herring Gull
Royal Tern 10+
Forster's Tern
Red-winged Blackbird

Deal Island WMA:

Double-crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron

Snowy Egret
Tricolored Heron 1
Green Heron
Mute Swan
Canada Goose

Clapper Rail

*Durring the winter, The Eurasian Wigeon winters and is seen frequently with American Wigeon at the Deal Island WMA.
In Spring/Summer, Black-necked Stilts are abundent, Deal Island being one of few places that Black-necked Stilts breed in Maryland.

Happy Birding,
