Tonight at 7:30 PM, Gene Scarpulla will present a slide show highlighting
the successful rebuilding of Hart-Miller Island and the amazing diversity
of birdlife that can be found there. The meeting will be at the College
Park Airport Annex, and the complete program description is listed below.
For directions or additional information, check the Prince George's
Audubon Society website at <www.pgaudubon.org>. This program will be of
interest to all Maryland birders and wildlife enthusiasts.
At our season-opening meeting, Mr. Scarpulla will recount the history and
avian diversity of Hart-Miller Island in the Chesapeake Bay. The island,
originally created as a dumping site for dredged material, has become the
site of Maryland's richest concentration of shorebirds, earning it almost
mythic status among the state's birding cognoscenti. Gene Scarpulla has
visited the island more than anyone else, and his weekly reports have
become almost as legendary as the island itself. Over the years, these
visits have also yielded a treasure-trove of superb slides which he will
share.
All are welcome, members and non-members alike, and light refreshments
will be served.
