Numerous raptors were seen migrating on Tues 9/13/05, at locations along the Potomac River east and west of Poolesville, Montgomery County, MD. The last best bird of the day I saw was a magnificent adult Bald Eagle, at an altitude of only about 100 feet, which passed slowly over me at Hughes Hollow about 4:45 pm, making wide circles and moving gradually to the west. Its feathers were illuminated with brilliant sunshine against a bright blue sky.
Red-shouldered Hawk - 3
Broadwinged Hawk - 17 ( 3 kettles)
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 2
Harrier - 1
Osprey - 2
Bald Eagle - 1
There was also a huge movement of Chimney Swifts and Monarch butterflies in the same locations.
