CROMWELL VALLEY PARK HAWKWATCH Friday, Sept. 16th 2005

All of the east coast hawkwatches have had very low numbers this week because of the
uncooperative weather pattern we've been in. With Hurricane Ophelia almost stationary off North
Carolina, and a large frontal boundary slowly moving in from the Great Lakes region, we've seen
poor migration conditions.
It is believed that this same frontal boundary has trapped most of the Broad-winged hawks to the
north of the New England watch sites. Once Ophelia clears out of New England these hawks will
begin to move south.
Bottom line is Saturday the 17th will probably be low numbers, Sunday the 18th may see some
good numbers, but Monday the 19th and Tuesday the 20th should see the big numbers we hope
to get!!!
