This afternoon a Peregrine falcon was on one of the snags across from the
boat launch parking lot at Pt. Lookout. Needless to say I was expecting a Bald
eagle or Osprey. We had just returned from a trip to Smith Island. when I spied
it. I spent from 3:30 until 4:00 watching it with my scope. It did not appear
to be banded, but the way it was perched it was very hard to see the legs. It
did some preening which was neat to see.
This is the first peregrine I've ever seen in an unexpected place. Not a
bridge, not a water tower, not Brigantine. Somehow it felt more like a wild bird
then those do.
