I spent two hours this morning (9/27) at my favorite migrant spot (in
Greenbelt, PG county). It was not a great morning since I missed that
huge concentration of migrants that sometimes appears early in the
morning, just as they land after a long night's flight. But it was a
pretty good morning because of the nice variety of migrants and the cool
weather which kept the birds active longer than usual (until about
8:30).

The highlights, with rough estimates of numbers include 12 warblers
(Nashville 1, Parula 8, Chestnut-sided 5, Magnolia 5, Black-throated
Blue 1, Black-throated Green 10, Pine 6, Prairie 1, Bay-breasted 1,
Black-and-white 8, Redstart 10, Ovenbird 2) and four thrushes (one each
Wood, Swainson's, Gray-cheeked and Veery). Also of interest were
Cuckoos 4, Sapsucker, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and two Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks. On mornings like this, I wonder how much would be added to
the list with a second pair of eyes or a good ear in the party.

On my way back to the car, the first Broad-winged Hawk circled up into
the clear, blue sky.
