It's been a slow couple of weeks at Ft. Bayard Park--full of great birds, as long as they're robins or starlings. But surely today things had to be different, after a second straight night of north winds and with chilly air that actually feels like fall?

Well, nothing earth-shattering appeared, but it was a good morning in my corner of the city. Contributing to the whole autumnal atmosphere were not just one, but two YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS (my first of the season).

Just one warbler (my first here in a while)--a first year Blackpoll, who didn't show up until near the end of my walk but was at least cooperative enough to give me good enough looks for an ID. Rounding out the migrants were a Scarlet Tanager and Baltimore Oriole, both feeding on what I think are black cherries.
