Hello All,
I made my usual Sunday morning rounds of the Oak Grove area (Caroline Co., MD / Sussex Co., DE) yesterday morning looking for more migrants. It was a quite active morning with several groups of warblers. My first stop was North Oak Grove Rd by the Mason-Dixon marker where I had 5 Parula, a BTG and a Redstart plus a male Scarlet Tanager. On to Horseshoe Rd (DE) at the stream crossing and I had 2 male Black-throated Blues (new for the year - #147). BTB is rather scarce as a migrant here and I miss it entirely about 1 out of 4 years. Also more Parula here and a very vocal and loud Screech Owl in response to the tape. At the west end of the hedgerow along the railroad, there was a group of 35 goldfinch (by far the largest group since last winter) with 2 Chipping Sp and 1 Savannah Sp. Moving on to the farm (MD), I had a nice mixed flock (again in the hedgerow along the railroad) that included Parula, Redstart, Yellowthroat and a western Palm; Song, 1 Field and 1 Swamp Sp and a Catbird. Along the cutoff woods, I added Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Pine Warbler and a House Wren (in the burned portion). The most unusual bird of the day was found on Oak Grove Rd by the abandoned yellow house. It was a late Eastern Kingbird. I tried really hard to turn this into something more exotic, but it clearly had a white band across the tail and a dark cap. A total of 50 species.

Good Birding,
