I made only my second-ever trip to the very popular Blue Mash Nature Trail, putting in about an hour and a half before work this morning (Friday Oct 14). It was quite birdy although there was not much on the two viewable ponds apart from Canada Geese. However, low-flying Tree Swallows and Chimney Swift provided nice looks at these two spots.

Best of the sparrows was a single Lincoln's, the first one I have seen this Fall (although this was only the 3rd time I've been out birding since end-August). This was associating with both Song and Swamp Sparrows just the other side of a fence line towards the northern end; also came across 3 Savannah and around 30 Field Sparrow.

There were several large flocks of American Robin, but they were restless and did not lend themselves to being scanned through for rarer birds, and around 20 or so Flicker, all with the expected underwing color. The only warblers were Myrtle (2) and Yellowthroat (1). Raptors included two Harriers, seen in the distance being mobbed by crows, and single Sharp-shinned and Red-shouldered Hawk.

Good birding
