During my morning walk today, the wrens, blue jays, woodpeckers, phoebes and
flickers all appeared to be in fine voice. The highlight of the walk was a
flock of 16 turkeys at the end of the road. I had heard turkeys gobbling
off and on during the summer but this was the first sighting of them. Prior
to sighting the turkeys, a red shouldered hawk had landed in the trees
bordering a large open area. As I got closer, I saw the turkeys out in the
open nearly under where the hawk was. I guess the turkeys were unfazed by
the hawk, or vice versa.
