Dear All

Again a very pleasant 90 minutes of birding to start the day today.
Reasonable numbers of birds moving although I did think that the two-day
deluge might have grounded more. Everything below is in the Maintenance
Yard unless otherwise stated:

Magnolia Warbler 2
Black-throated Green Warbler 4+
Black-throated Blue Warbler 3 (1 male, 2 female)
Yellowthroat 1
Parula 2
Chestnut-sided Warbler 2
Golden-crowned Kinglet 4
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Peewee 1
Red-eyed Vireo 2
Blue-headed Vireo 1
Indigo Bunting 8+
Scarlet Tanager 4
Phoebe 1 (plus one at the Dog Run)
Flicker 3
Red-bellied Woodpecker 8+
Pileated Woodpecker 1
Cedar Waxwing 4
White-throated Sparrow 1
Lincoln's Sparrow 1
Dark-eyed Junco 4+
Catharus thrush sp 1

Plus goodly numbers of Robins moving and Blue Jays were in with a bump
too. Chimney Swifts were moving in numbers with an impressive covering of
the sky in loose formations for the first few hours of the day.

At home (Veazey St NW DC) there was a Cooper's Hawk late morning and House
Wren and Yellowthroat early afternoon.

Bird of the day for me was the Lincoln's Sparrow (tick!), kindly pointed
out and subsequently discussed by all present in the 'yard. The juncos and
Wh th Sparrow were the first I've seen this autumn. Having seen a few
Yellow-rumped Warblers around the house in the week I was expecting to be
knee-deep in them this morning - but not even a sniff of one all day. Ah
well, birding would be boring if it were too predictable...
