Hi all,
This morning there was an impromtu walk of the Montgomery Bird Club at Blue
Mash Nature Trail, as 7 members met by cooincidence there (myself, Mark
England, Hugh Mahanes, Lydia Schindler, Linda Friedland, Andy Martin and Chris
Barnard). We saw only small numbers of most species, one of only many species.
But we had some sparrows, including at least 2 but maybe 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS.
We first saw a single then a pair together, but one may have been the
previous single bird. They were seen along the trail which parallels the white
building. Also seen was a single adult White-crowned Sparrow, many Songs, a
single Swamp Sparrow (which I missed), Savannah Sparrow, Chipping Sparrows, and
Field Sparrows, along with towhees. Our best find, I think cmae rather late on
the trail just before we reached the parking lot, a single late immature
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, very light below, with very faint tail bands. It circled
overhead and soared off, in with a flock of vultures.
We also saw at least one each of Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, and
Cooper's Hawk, along with many Yellow-rumped Warblers, Gray Catbird, E.
Phoebes, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, E. Bluebirds, Cedar Waxwings, Carolina and House
Wren, C. Yellowthroat. A great day for butterflies there though.
