Dear All

I did a quick first hour of the day visit to the Maintenance Yard and
environs this morning. Not as happening as Saturday morning but overall
more common birds 'dug in'.

An adult Red-headed Woodpecker easily took bird of the day.

All birds at the Maintenance Yard (0730-0845) unless otherwise stated:

1 Cooper's Hawk
1 Nighthawk (how late do these guys hang around?)
c.100 Chimney Swifts
1 Eastern Phoebe
1 Blue-headed Vireo (stable yard)
1 House Wren
1 Winter Wren
35 Golden-crowned Kinglets
50 Ruby-crowned Kinglets
-00's Am. Robins, Cowbirds & Grackles overhead
1 Nashville Warbler (in exactly the same spot as one of the birds on
Saturday - the same bird?)
15 Yellow-rumped Warblers
40 Eastern Towhees
2 Catbirds
c.50 Chipping Sparrows
2 Swamp Sparrows
20 White-throated Sparrows
4 Dark-eyed Juncos
1 Swainson's Thrush
1 Brown Creeper (1st of the fall for me)
1 Red-headed Woodpecker - Adult (lifted up from in the trees by the 'yard
and gained height then flew off steadily high and south)

Another very pleasant morning's birding in Rock Creek Park...

Cheers

Gary
