Raptor sightings have been very few at Ft. Bayard Park this year--just two brief looks at immature Cooper's Hawks. So I was excited when a big immature Red-tailed Hawk flew in this morning to give me a new "park bird." Oddly, none of the smaller birds in the area seemed to want to do anything about it. In a moment I found out why--a nice adult male Cooper's also showed up. He briefly perched and gave me a nice look, vocalized, and then chased off the new guy, harassing the bigger bird as they went out of sight.

Otherwise, the park has had a trickle of migrants this week, though nary a warbler. Today ended a three-day string of phoebe sightings, but added my first juncos of the fall. Both kinglets have also been around, though not today. Too darn many raptors around!
