Hi Folks,

Elaine and I took advantage of the beautiful weather, and spent much of the
day birding in Calvert Co. There were hundreds of vultures and many hawks
and eagles aloft in the windy conditions. We tallied a total of 72 species,
with highlights being SNOW GOOSE, SNOWY EGRET, SCOTERS, BLUE-HEADED VIREO,
CAPE MAY WARBLER, LINCOLN'S SPARROW, and E. MEADOWLARK. Golden-crowned
Kinglets were everywhere (including our yard in Ferndale, AA Co.), and were
very very vocal. We made five stops, and saw:

    North Beach, at sunrise:
Snow Goose--5 flyovers, 2 adults and 3 juveniles
Surf Scoter--20 in a raft fairly close in; a few formations flying out in
the bay
Black Scoter--1 hen with the above Surfs
Snowy Egret--4 in the marsh on west side of Hwy 261
Killdeer--1, only shorebird of day
Forster's Tern--2 over the marsh
E. Meadowlark--flew into the marsh; I've never seen one here before

    Am. Chestnut Land Trust--very quiet:
Brown Thrasher--pair
Blk-thr. Green Warbler--1

Calvert Cliffs State Park; very birdy
Wood Duck--hen heard
Osprey--1 flyover
Bald Eagle--3 aloft together, one an adult
Sharp-shinned Hawk--1
Chimney Swift--dozens overhead
E. Phoebe--1
Blue-headed Vireo--1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet--2
Yellow-rumped Warbler--several
Cape May Warbler--1, beautiful look; life bird for Elaine
Black-throated Green Warbler--1
Pine Warbler--1

    Solomon's Island
Great Egret--1
Royal Tern--2

    Jefferson Patterson Park:
Ruddy Duck--about a dozen out in river; same place they were in May; did
they oversummer?
Bald Eagle--1 adult
Forster's Tern--1 over river
Tree Swallow--hundreds at park, and along Mackall Rd.
Yellow-rumped Warbler--5
Magnolia Warbler--1
(W.) Palm Warbler--5
Chipping Sparrow--10
Swamp Sparrow--1
Lincoln's Sparrow--1, viewed in scope; life bird for Elaine

Just a great day to be out.
