Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch Friday, Oct. 14th and Saturday, Oct. 15th 2005
With the first peeks of sun in a week or so I decided to see if anything was flying.
TOTALS for Friday 10/14/2005
Sharpies - 28
Coopers - 3
Osprey - 2
Red tails - 3
Beautiful weather on Saturday brought out the hawks as well as the hawk-watchers, with 12
birders visiting the watch site throughout the day. As a cold front moved through about 1:00pm, a
distinct increase in raptors was noted immediately, culminating in a pair of Peregrine falcons at 4:
35pm!! Local Red-tails pose a bit of a problem as they are very interactive with migrating Red-
tails. Talon drop, dives and unison flying are among the displays they exhibit as they say to the
migrants"KEEP MOVING, THIS IS MY TERRITORY'. Only those Red-tails that move south past the
ridge are added to our hawk count.
