Greetings,
Yesterday I started at the the Turkey Point Hawk Watch, which was brutally
slow however the passerines migration was in FULL swing. Here I found LOADS
of White-throated and Chipping Sparrows, along with Towhees, and a few
Purple Finches. I found 4 species of warbler including a female Blackpoll.
There was also Black and White, (yellow) Palm, and Myrtle. A couple Kestrel
were tallied and I had a Eastern Screech Owl answer me at the light house.
Oh yeah some stragling Tree Swallows too.
In the late afternoon I ventured to Perryville to find Mill Creek, Furnace
Bay, and the Susquehanna Flats inundated with terns. There were easily 1000
plus Forster's Terns working all over the place. I also picked out one
Caspian Tern amoung the sterna. Waterfowl was in as well. Though numbers
were low (except for Ruddy Ducks grebes, and geese) species were well
represented. Canada Goose numbers were around 5000, Ruddy Ducks were around
500, and Pied-billed Grebe numbers were around 100. I also found a lone
Horned Grebe. Other water birds were: Ring-necked Duck, A. Wigeon, Gadwall,
Black Duck, Mallard, D-c Corm, Mute Swan, and an early-ish Common Merg.
(western) Palm Warbler, Myrtle, and Creeper were also noted here.
67 Speceis for the day.
Good Birding,
Chris Starling
