Hi all,

Here's the list of birds that I observed yesterday
while I walked part of the NCR trai and the nearby
woods:

Carolina Wren
White-throated Sparrow (many)
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Song Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Canada Goose
Ring-billed Gull
Winter Wren (heard in the brush and not seen, which
led me to believe it was a Winter, and not a House,
Wren)
Carolina Chickadee
Turkey Vulture
Blue Jay
House Finch
American Goldfinch (identified by their "potatochip"
call)
Belted Kingfisher
American Crow
American Black Duck
Mallard
Gray Catbird (two in one tree, trying to hide from me)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Dark-eyed Junco
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Red-bellied Nuthatch
Red-shouldered Hawk
American Robin
Wood Thrush (two seen high in a tree, with DARK spots
on their chests. I ruled out Hermit Thrushes because
most of those I've seen have been very secretive)
Hairy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Tufted Titmouse
Mourning Dove
Purple Finch (this guy was Really WHITE underneath, as
opposed to House Finches, which are browner)
Northern Mockingbird

Not bad, considering I only did a small part of the
trail.

Good birding,
Richard
