I spent part of the afternoon looking unsuccessfully for the White-fronted Goose at Sandy Point this afternoon. Bill Schreitz sent me two of his photos of the bird and it appears to be an adult. When I arrived at the location that he mentioned one of the first birds I saw was a Greylag X Canada Goose hybrid with a white front to the face. If you go looking for the White-fronted Goose don't be fooled by this one which is larger than the Canadas and has a block head. I also checked the other goose flocks in the park but they were all Canadas, about 250 total. The only interesting bird I saw was my first Canvasback of the season, a drake in the marina.
There are many nearby places that geese from the park can visit so the White-fronted may still be around.
