Yesterday (Nov 10), while birding at Pickering Creek, I had a long and
fulfilling view of a Grasshopper Sparrow, along with lots of other sparrows
in fields and hedge rows. Other sparrows included Song (12+),
White-throated (30+), and Savannah (7+). Last week a White-crowned was
there but I could not find it yesterday. Work on some new wetland ponds is
now well underway at Pickering Creek, and yesterday a dozen Killdeer were
gathered around one of the ponds.

This week my yard and/or feeders have hosted great numbers of Goldfinch,
lots of House Finch, and a Purple Finch nearly every day. Small flocks of
Cedar Waxwings have been around, and large numbers of Robins. Two Ruddy
Ducks have shown up on the waters of Leeds Creek, along with around 1200
Canada Geese.

Field and driveway visitors include a Winter Wren and a Brown Thrasher.

Tuesday, Nov 8, a visit to Turkey Point was rewarded with sightings of
the large flock of Rusty Blackbirds (previously reported by several people).
At least three Black-capped Chickadees were also there that day.

Wednesday morning at Black Walnut Point at least a dozen Common Loons
swam by and one Red-throated Loon flew by. A few small flocks of Surf
Scoters were also present. Lots of Brown-headed Nuthatches were in the
pines beside the road. Sparrows over there included at least seven Swamp
Sparrows.
