Joy and I decided to go for a short hike at the Blue Mash Nature
Trail (Montgomery County) this morning (Monday, November 14), since
it was, at least early this morning, such a fine, mild day with clear
blue skies.

Frankly, we were a bit disappointed at the poor showing of
passerines, highlighted nevertheless by 1 HERMIT THRUSH and 2 FOX
SPARROWS. Kinglets were a total no-show.

But there were a few ducks in the pond that is nearest to the ('"no
entry") entrance to the old landfill:

7 BUFFLEHEAD
5 HOODED MERGANSER
4 GADWALL
20 GREEN-WINGED TEAL

We also saw a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS.

Best passerine was a female PURPLE FINCH.

The Zion Road Pond, just a little to the north of Blue Mash, had a
further 17 BUFFLEHEAD and 13 HOODED MERGANSER.

Ducks they are a'coming in!
