This morning I birded the C&O Canal in the Sycamore Landing area looking for the putative Great Crested Flycatcher reported on the Voice of the Naturalist. As Matt Hafner pointed out an Ash-throated Flycatcher would be overwhelmingly more likely than a Great Crested at this time of year.
I was there from 0915-1045 but no flycatchers were seen or heard. I birded upstream as far as the turf farm and downstream as far as milepost 21. I found the expected resident and wintering birds with Golden-crowned Kinglets being quite common. All the chickadees were Carolinas.
