Hi Jane and all,
 Though I couldn't attend the reception for Chan tonight, I wanted to  share 
with everyone here on MDOsprey a story which is typical Chan, in a  nutshell.
 
 Several years back, when my wife Nancy and I had taken over the  Triadelphia 
CBC as compilers from Norm and Fran, we were having our tally at  Meadowside 
Nature Center, following a wonderful chili with all the fixins dinner  (which 
we still have I might add).
 
Anyway, as an area leader, Chan was in attendance as usual. I had a friend  
who really wanted to meet him, so during a break I brought her over to 
introduce  her to Chan, and in chatting with him, I asked if he was going to stay for  
dinner and the tally. His reply was that though he would love to, he was  
battling a bad chest cold (this after birding all day since before sunup), and  
had to leave, as he had to get to choir practice!
