Even in sub-freezing weather, if there is sunshine, small midges and small black stoneflies hatch from the Gunpowder (a trout stream). The day we saw the Hammond's, it spent some time sitting low on branches along the river and there were a number of midges coming off the water. However on cloudy or really bitter days, this won't happen, so the flycatcher would be dependent on those berries.
