At Kenilworth Park in DC this AM, the Peregrine that had been seen on
Wed. had returned - this time on the ante-penultimate goal post.
Meanwhile a Red Fox was lurking off the first parking lot. With the two
ends of the playing fields anchored by these predators, it was not
surprising that the resident Canada Geese had forsworn their favorite
foraging ground. But after the fox had slunk off, the 14(!) A. Pipits
and 3 Killdeers spotted earlier by Rob Hilton did return. The pipits
tend to favor the "pools" near the road, but are skittish and can't be
relied on to be at any particular place.
Meanwhile the Peregrine had remained in place the whole time. Eventually
an adventurous few of the resident Fish Crows, motivated perhaps by
curiosity, ventured into nearby trees but did not presume to harass this
fearsome predator.
The combined list was:
Canada Goose 350
Sharp-shinned Hawk ad m.
PEREGRINE FALCON ad. m.
