This was posted to VA-Birds but since Hunting Creek is directly adjacent
Maryland waters and hence nearby to DC waters as well, observers should
keep a good eye out. Based on the observation of the bird flying out
over the river, it went into Maryland!

There was an adult CALIFORNIA GULL on the mud at Hunting Creek this
evening, amongst the Ring-billed, Herring and Laughing Gulls. It
remained until the tide rose to cover almost all of the mud at which
time it was lost with 50% of the gulls that flew over the GW Parkway out
to the river.
