This past week has been interesting as we look for signs of owls in the Loch Raven / Cromwell
Valley Park area. On Tuesday, Dec. 6th, M. Miller photographed what he thought was a E. Screech
Owl in Cromwell Valley Park. When he showed a park naturalist and myself the photo, we knew
right away it was a Saw-whet Owl!!!! This is the first SW Owl seen at CVP. This bird has not been
seen since then.

On Saturday, Dec. 10th, 2 pair of Great Horned Owls were seen near the boundary line that
separates CVP from the water-shed area. On Sunday the 11th, 1 Barred Owl was seen in the
Furnace Branch area of Loch Raven. On Monday the 12th, as we listened to the 4 GH Owls hooting
at CVP, we also heard a Eastern Screech Owl vocalizing!!!
