Hello, birders.

Bob Klarquist and I birded section 16 of the Seneca (MD) CBC on Sunday the 18th. Conditions were good for birding, sunny, calm and not too cold. We birded on the Virginia side of the Potomac at Lowe's Island Golf Course in the NE corner of Loudoun Co. Our best bird was a male LONG-TAILED DUCK that was roughly in the middle of the river. Nearby were a large flock of Ring-billed Gulls, a Canada Goose and several Am. Coot. This spot on the river was where the Neotropic Cormorant was being seen several weeks ago (near Violette's Lock on the C&O Canal, Maryland).

Other neat species included Am. Tree and White-crowned Sparrow (2 of 9 sparrow species seen), Purple Finch and Barred Owl. Oh, and a Woodchuck along the river.

Special thanks to Superintendent Byron Lash and the Lowes Island Club for allowing us to bird this interesting property. I enjoy doing it every December. And thanks to Bob Klarquist for his good birding skills and good company, and to compiler Mark England, as well.
