The St Michaels CBC was held on Dec 18 under the leadership of Wayne Bell
and Shirley Bailey of the Talbot Bird Club. Species total - 94 (about
average for this count). Individuals total - 62,718 ( a little below
average for this count, but boat results remain to be added in). Canada
Goose total - 45,625 - was very close to the same as 2004. Twenty-one adult
Bald Eagles were sighted, but only three immatures.

Bird of the day was clearly a Nashville Warbler, sighted early in the
morning by Jan Reese in the hedge beside the playground of the public park
just north of Knapps Narrows.

Other 'one of a kind' sightings included Red-shouldered Hawk, American
Woodcock, Merlin, Ring-necked Duck, Pied-billed Grebe, Snow Goose and Pine
Warbler. Two each were found of House Wren and Barred Owl.

In my sector (called Broad Creek) the species highlight was a flock of
69 Wild Turkeys (total of 73 for the count). It was also interesting to
note that the only Meadowlarks of the count were found on the grounds of the
Jean Shehan Audubon Sanctuary, where there were 39. Similarly, most of the
Savannah Sparrows of the count were found at Jean Shehan Sanctuary (32 of
the 33 that were reported).
