The Elkton Christmas Bird Count was held on Sunday, December 18th. The weather was wonderful for a winter count; sunny to partly cloudy, with temperatures 32-42 F and calm winds. With one area and several feeder watchers yet to report we have a species count of 94. Outstanding species include: Yellow-headed Blackbird, Great Egret, Ross's Goose, Cackling Goose, American Woodcock, 5000+ Common Merganser, and 150+ Long-tailed Duck. Also of note were the numerous sightings of Red-breasted Nuthatch and Black-capped Chickadee.
