Mark Linardi and I went down to Elliott Island today. We spent about
four hours in the area but did not see the Snow Owl. We spoke very
briefly with another party that was there in the morning, then the
late afternoon, and they also did not see it. Well into dusk we did
see a Short-eared Owl a mile or two north of the house by the roadside
in the middle of the marsh). We saw three Snipe in a pond in that area
also, and 2 Marsh Wrens nearby. In Fishing Bay there were about 3000
Canvasbacks. By the main Elliott boat launch there were hundreds of
Ruddy ducks and a few Redheads.

On the way down we stopped by the Cambridge waterfront and were
pleasantly surprised that the waterfowl were quite plentiful around
Oakley Road and Great Marsh Park despite some concern about
development along the waterfront posted a few weeks ago. There were
about 100 Surf Scoters - some of them quite close, a few dozen
Canvasbacks, 10-20 Oldsquaw - also rather close, mainly by the marina
about a quarter mile east of Oakley Rd, and Buffleheads, and a few
Goldeneye.
