Mark and Others,
Looking at the map on the http://bikewashington.org/canal/ website, it seems that they mislabel Nolands Rd and call it Nolands Ferry Road. I assume that Lydia et al saw the bird from the towpath. In that case, it seems that she is describing the area just to the northwest of where Nolands Rd makes a 90 degree turn to the left when it meets the river. The maps below should detail where I am talking about. I might be misinterpreting her directions, however.
