Color-marked (auxiliary marking) birds should be reported to the Bird
Banding Laboratory via their web site report form (www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbl).
Please be patient and you will either get a Certificate giving banding
information (if we can get a band number from the researcher) or you will
get a copy of a letter that we send to the bander asking them to contact
you. If we can't locate anyone doing this type of marking, we will also
let you know. All of this does take time so you need to be patient. This
is also our peak time of year so it will also take a little longer because
of this.
I am forwarding your report to the biologist who handles auxiliary marking
so you do not need to report this one again. One other point regarding
banding of House Sparrows -- because this species is not part of the
Migratory Bird Treaty Act marking is not governed by the Federal
government.

[MDOSPREY] House Sparrow with yellow leg bands
We live in Bethesda in Montgomery County. Today we saw a male House
Sparrow at our feeder with two yellow bands on its left leg. Does anyone
know if someone is doing a study of House Sparrows in this area using the
colored bands and, if so, whether we should report this sighting to them?
Thanks.
