Richard - The 94th Street woods in Ocean City start just north of 94th
Street (park behind the largely closed mall, by the tennis courts). Right
in the south end is a nice thicket of hollies (were the Warbling Vireo was
on the November rarity roundup). There is a little trail that goes west
towards the marsh along the north edge of the holly grove. It is difficult
to walk north through the woods from here (they are a very narrow strip of
pines with a thick smilax/p. ivy understory), so work the east edge along
the fringe of the parking lot. There is also a little storm water pond
(dry) here. A little farther north (close to were a little finger of the
woods extends to the east at 100th Street, and at the northern terminus of
the mall) you can get into the woods and walk around a little. There are
both Great Horned Owls and Caroline Chickadees here, not found farther south
in OC. I've seen both Philadelphia Vireo and Yellow-bellied Flycatcher here
in fall migration. Keep working north behind the Catholic Church and work
the fringe along the north side of the church parking lot (were their
recreational center building is). This is where the Northern Shrike was a
couple years ago on the Nov count. There is a pond buried in the phragmites
here, which often holds a couple Black-crowned Night Herons. You can keep
walking north by going to the east by the new condos, but the condos have
made the habitat a little less desirable (had Vesper Sparrow here in
migration back in the 90s here).

Enjoy!

Hi all,

Winger West, my wife, Jill, and I tried to bird at 94th St. woods today, be
we weren't sure if we found the right woods.

We did make it to Delaware (we got as far as Cape Henlopen) and we have 74
species for the day.

 Good birding,

 Richard

Hi all,

If someone saw these two today, please let us know

today either offlist or on MDOsprey. Some of us are

going tomorrow. I'm stuck today with job interviews,

but tomorrow, I'll chase it all day.

    Thanks
